How to Choose a Lightweight Folding Electric Wheelchair
Lightweight means different things on different specification sheets. These are the figures worth comparing, and the trade-offs that come with them.
Check weight with the battery fitted
Some listings quote frame weight only. Compare weight with the battery, then the heaviest piece you would lift. For reference: EEZY CARBON 13 kg, EEZY LITE 16.5 kg, EEZY ROLLER 18 kg, and the EEZY SPLIT 29.5 kg overall but lifted in two sections — a 19.2 kg front section carrying both batteries (16 kg without them) and a 10.3 kg rear section.
Folded size and fold mechanism
Match folded length, width and height against your boot, hallway or cupboard. A one-hand fold matters if you will often be folding the chair on your own.
Maximum user weight and range
Lighter frames usually carry lower limits — 115–150 kg across our one-piece models. If you need more, look at heavier-duty or split designs such as the 180 kg EEZY SPLIT. For range, allow a margin: hills, cold weather and heavier loads reduce it.
Frame material
Carbon fibre is the lightest and costs more; aluminium is lighter than steel and good value. Our carbon fibre vs aluminium guide covers the differences in detail.
